BEGINNING SALARY:  Depending on qualifications

  • Firefighter/EMT: $34,140.83 - $47,945.48
  • Firefighter/AEMT: $40,415.67 - $56,730.26
  • Firefighter/Paramedic: $42,497.78 - $59,668.02
  • Paramedic: $39,097.94 - $54,894.69

DESCRIPTION OF JOB

Under the supervision of a Fire Captain, the Firefighter/EMT, Firefighter/AEMT, Firefighter/Paramedic performs specialized work in the prevention and suppression of fires and providing lifesaving services (EMS).  Firefighting work includes combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires, operating and maintaining fire department equipment and apparatus.  EMT/AEMT/Paramedic duties include responding with ambulance service to emergency medical service calls, transporting sick and injured persons in response area.  Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures, but independent judgment may be required in certain circumstances.

Under the supervision of a Fire Captain, the Paramedic/AEMT/EMT performs specialized work in providing basic and advanced lifesaving services (BLS/ALS) and the prevention of medical and trauma related issues. EMS duties include responding with ambulance service to emergency medical service calls, transporting sick and injured persons in response area and participating in public education activities. Duties also include maintaining department equipment and apparatus. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures, but independent judgment may be required in certain circumstances.

While we always prefer that employees live within Lyon County, our residency policy has been amended.  Employees are required to reside within Lyon county or the counties immediately surrounding. We work the Berkley shift schedule (24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 4 days off).  There is no mandatory call back although a substantial amount of call back time is available.

STANDARDS FOR INITIAL CONSIDERATION

  • Possess Kansas or National Registry EMT Certification, AEMT Certification, or Paramedic Certification
  • Must successfully complete aptitude and physical agility tests
  • Knowledge of EMS methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Upon pre-conditional offer of employment must pass physical exam & drug/alcohol screening
