KEMSA Billing Workshop - August 11, 2023Ambulance Billing Basics & BeyondWORKSHOP INFORMATION:KEMSA will host a full-day billing workshop on Friday, August 11 in conjunction with the Annual KEMSA Conference in Mulvane. Complete details are below. Learn critical tips on how to look at the billing process from when the trip report arrives in billing through the back end of the billing process. We help review your accounts receivable functions to follow-up appropriately, address denials and better manage patient-pay challenges. The presentation will discuss the top areas where ambulance services may experience revenue leakage and the strategies providers can employ to improve outcomes. Topics will include methods to collect patient demographic information, best approach to coding and billing emergencies, knowing whether your service should provide the non-emergency transport based on patient eligibility, proven methods to identify and collect co-pays and deductibles, electronic payment processing options, the submission of claims to appropriate payers (including the rules that govern different payers like Medicare, managed care, Medicaid and commercial plans), the need for transparency with payers, timely follow-up, and self-pay account resolution. We will also discuss the recent regulatory changes that impact self-pay accounts. This session offers indispensable guidance on best practices for ambulance billing success. Maggie is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ambulance Association of Pennsylvania. She served on the Regulatory Compliance Advisory Board of the Non-Emergency Transportation Accreditation Commission (NEMTAC). Maggie has been a lecturer for the EMS Leadership Institute and is a member of the Wharton Women’s Forum. Throughout her career, Maggie has been a sought-after speaker and has presented at conferences across the country. Known for her upbeat and positive personality, Maggie provides practical solutions to problems faced by all ambulance providers and billing companies. All registrations will be taken online. You will have the option to pay with credit card or you will automatically be emailed an invoice that you can turn in for payment. All registration fees are due on or before the seminar starts on August 11. Make sure to login for the member price. If you need to register more than one person, just add a guest registration for each additional person you want to include. Then you will get one invoice for everyone. Or if you are registering someone else, go to the registration form and substitute their information for your information that it fills in. |
No refunds will be issued for this workshop, but a substitution can be made. If you can't attend and can't send a substitute, your balance will still be owed.
The conference room rates are:
$99 per night (Standard King or Queen rooms) + tax
$104 per night (King Studios) + tax.
Breakfast is included with hotel rooms.
A small amount of smoking rooms are available, but the majority of rooms are non-smoking.
Note about tax exemption: If you plan to use a tax exemption form for your stay, the exemption form will need to be provided ahead of time or during the check-in process. The hotel will no longer remove state taxes after the guest has checked out.

The conference hotel reservation deadline is July 25 or whenever the block sells out. We cannot guarantee room rates or availability after the deadline or after the block sells out.
Once the block fills up, the hotel WILL NOT have a waiting list. You will need to call back occasionally and see if rooms have become available. If you would like to make a reservation at another hotel, we have provided a few options for you below. We don't currently have room block agreements with them, but you are welcome to call them for a reservation. Reservations are the attendee's responsibility.
